Email Marketing: What is a Soft Bounce?

A soft bounce is where your email has been received by your recipient's mail server but could not be delivered. A soft bounce is to notify you of a temporary issue.

Why did my email soft bounce?

There are a number of reasons for a soft bounce including:

  • Recipients mail server is down or busy
  • Recipients mailbox is full
  • The message you have sent is too large

What should I do when I get a soft bounce?

Smart Messenger automatically handles bounces for you so there is no immediate need to do anything.

You may wish to consider calling the affected recipient to check all is ok and that they haven't changed their email address to keep your data up to date.
